photons
             like phantoms
                                   cross our paths
unseen                       except
             for their effects

                             every poem begins with sometimes
every dream begins with maybe
From the author's 2014 poetry collection Tattered Paper, Shattered Glass.

Under one of the more liberal definitions, this could be labelled a modern tanka, its five poetic phrases being
photons like phantoms
cross our paths unseen
except for their effects
every poem begins with sometimes
every dream begins with maybe
I'm so very grateful to the dA community for all the love they've shown this poem—not only to those responsible for its Daily Deviation status but also to each and every person who has read, favorited, and/or commented on it and to the groups that have featured it. It was an unexpected honor that I'll never forget. Emoticon: Bow Special thanks must also go to one of my favorite poets, Dave Read, a true wit and an expert writer of senryū and kyōka (the lighthearted, humorous or parodic versions of haiku and tanka, respectively); in addition to having work published in poetry journals, he's very active on Twitter as AsSlimAsImBeing, and that's where he posted the poem that inspired this one.

Six of the thirty poems contained in Tattered Paper, Shattered Glass are available to read here at deviantART. The others are:

Transpiration
Rising in Love
Observation: Language
Her Dance
Entropy
