Literature Text

I.

The whole of cold, silent space is expanding:
galaxies grow more distant from one another;
the universe is mostly empty already, and
the emptiness, silence, and cold are increasing.

II.

In an old-growth forest, summer sunlight falls,
diffused through the boughs of the beeches;
comes the chirping of birds, the rustle of leaves
as mammals and insects move in the brush.

III.

A soft gasp, a hushed sigh, the quickening stream
of blood through capillaries, arteries, veins,
as a finger lightly, oh so lightly, touches and traces
the warm, gentle slopes of a lover’s lips.

From the author's 2014 poetry collection Tattered Paper, Shattered Glass.

I don't really know what to say about this one. I guess I'll just let it speak for itself. If you're not familiar with the concept of entropy, this brief article is as good a place as any to start.

Six of the thirty poems contained in Tattered Paper, Shattered Glass are available to read here at deviantART. The others are:

Transpiration
Rising in Love

Again, wonderful! This brings great envy to my heart! <3 The sensory depth and illustration here is wonderful; and the structure is elegant, subtle, and superb. The effect of "zooming in" with each section is truly profound; it seems to add eons to each part. Life goes on down here as the universe is ever in motion. In terms, also, of contrast, gradient, and mood: brilliant!
